Surely, in the past, beside the other branches of modeling, things were going well. In the grounds of the Magyar Honvédelmi Szövetség (Hungarian National Defense Association) the material and opportunity was provided. The only thing needed for someone was the will to build a model boat and to compete with it. Surely, the systemic-transition of 1989 has changed everything. Ever descending numbers were able, or wanted to exercise the sport. Today the numbers has dwindled to a bunch of enthusiasts.
Establishment:
The main organization of model sailing on the world is Naviga. It includes all forms of model boating (motor boat, classical boats, etc.). Naturally, within it, radio controlled sailing as well. In addition, there is a radio-controlled department within the International Sailing Association. These two organizations practically organize their World Championships abreast. Their classes differ only somewhat.
With the progress of time ever more countries has crossed to the ISAF department. This is partially thanks to the fact that the ISAF IOM (International One Meter Class) is the world’s most popular model boat. There is approximately 15 000 of these boats worldwide. The class’ World Championship is held now in Mooloola, Australia.
Classes:
In Hungary under the organizational aegis of Naviga there are three classes. These are the E, the M and the 10.
The E (Ein Meter Klasse) is practically equal with the IOM class. With relatively simple modifications, the two classes are permeable. The rule system of the IOM is in nuances but more bounded. According to the Class Rules, the suit of sails is set. That is to say that beside the main rules (maximum length, length of the keel, and suit of sails) the boat is ductile to one’s own taste. Generally, the ace of the class develops the popular boat types of a class. The majority of the field is competing with boats produced by them. In the IOM class, Graham Bantock the multiple world champion is one of these people. Many compete with his boats.
The class rule of the M class (Marblehead) is in some ways freer as here the boats can be built from carbon as well. The whole boat is nearly 30 cm longer than those in the E class and here can be more than two servo engines.
The 10 class is different in its modality from the previous two. According to the class rules, a 10-class boat can be built by the following formula: the waterline measured in sweet water x sail surface / 122903 =< 10. This is the biggest class.
Racing:
The rules of sailing apply with small differences to an RC sailing competition as well. For example, it is not a mistake to touch the buoy.
The National Championship:
Each day of the three day, National Championship a different class accomplished its 15 races. Races were held on Friday in the 10, on Saturday the M and on Sunday the E category. The weather was unpleasant but the wind was plenty. All planned races were organized.
